After Completing Masters (MS) in 2001, He Joined National Institute Of Ophthalmology & Hospital in June 2001 as Medical Officer, Then Promoted to Registrar in Eye Dept of Dhaka Medical Collage & Hospital in 2004. In 2009, He promoted to Junior Consultant. In 2014, he promoted to Senior Consultant of Ophthalomlogy. Now he is working as Head in department of Ophthalmology in 300 Bedded Hospital, Narayanganj. Dr. Md. Akhter Hossain joined in Fashion Eye Hospital, Moghbazar, as Consultant in 2003. In 2010, he Started Private Practice in Khidmah Eye Center. After 5 Years he shifted his Practice in Hikmah Specialized Eye Hospital at Khilgaon, Dhaka in 2016.
